Location Jewelry

While walking along the beach on vacation I noticed ocean polished stones and imagined what they would look like with a little more work.  I gathered a bag and tucked them into my suitcase.  After about four weeks in the tumbler the natural beauty just popped.  Now as friends travel to far away places they are put on the mission of bringing back some handpicked rocks.  As a bit of a bribe to do the lugging they get the pick of the litter and a piece of jewelry that I design just for them.  It's exciting to see what the earth has to offer.

Any items that are still available will be placed on ETSY.  Just follow the link to purchase.

Fire Island, NY

I was excited to get these rocks for a few reasons. One -  I vacationed there with three of my best friends and remembered admiring these beautiful stones.  Tw0 - my friend Paul brought them back for me which meant that I would be designing a piece of jewelry for a man.  Third - After surviving Hurricane Sandy it is nice to have these precious little reminders of the beauty of that area.

Before Tumbling

Davis Creek, CA

My friend Susan traveled to this little town in Northern California and brought back a bag of rocks she picked up from her friend's driveway. They turned out to be beautiful pieces of Black and Mahogany Obsidian which is formed by volcanic lava rapidly cooling.

After Tumbling
Susan fell in love with a naturally heart-shaped stone. I designed a simple three prong support to hold the stone and to also follow the fossil line in the top of the heart. The actual heart shape is just as it came out of the volcano, for wearability I flattened the back so it would rest on the back plate. It is sterling silver and the bale is designed to hold any chain that she choses.

The Greek Island of Lefkas

Picture
Lefkas is a Greek Island in the Ionian Sea on the west coast of Greece.

My dear friend goes there annually to vacation with her best friends and they go to a beach called Egremni.  They were happy to spend a little of their sunning time to gather some of the most amazing rocks you could hope to find.  As you walk along the water you are not walking on sand but rather small ocean tumbled stones.  As you make your way you hear the crunch of the rocks beneath your feet.
